What Is Corona Virus:
CO stands for corona VI for virus and D for diseases, and disease caused by corona virus is called 2019 novel corona virus or 2019-nCoV. Corona Virus emerged in 2019 in Wuhan, China. This Zoonotic corona virus crossed species to infect human inhabitants. The very first case was identified in Wuhan China in December 2019. Chinese Health ministry diagnosed first case but the cases went on increasing day by day. This deadly virus proliferated nationwide and then across the world. In China by February 17 2020 confirmed cases were 72436 Wuhan and Hubei with major fatality rate. In the past decades SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV outbreaks caused disastrous effects. Covid-19 is 75 to 80% similar to SARS-CoV. Corona virus grows better in in epithelial cells of human beings. Knowing the genome sequence helps identify the virus rapidly.
Corona Virus Origin:
SARS-CoV which was thought to be caused by wet market and MERS-CoV which was caused by camels. In SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV ancestral hosts were bats. Primary reservoir of deadly virus are bats.
Corona Virus effect on respiratory system:
Corona virus have severe affects on the Respiratory system. Patients infected with Corona virus had pneumonia, fever and chest infection followed by diarrhea, vomiting, cough, digestive system problems. It becomes hard for Covid-19 infected patients to swap carbon dioxide and oxygen from lungs while breathing. Neonatal cases were also reported, One neonatal case was identified by pharyngeal swab nucleic acid at 24 hours after birth with symptoms of mild fever and viral pneumonia was found in scanning.
- Persisting Lung damage
- Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
- pulmonary scarring
- Sore throat
- Ground Glass Opacities
Most Frequent Symptoms
Dry cough, Fever, Tiredness
Less Frequent Symptoms
Headache, Diarrhea, Loss of smell and test, Rash on Skin, Aches and Pains, Discoloration of fingers
Shortness of breath, Aphasia, Chest Pain, Chest Pressure
Types of Corona Cases:
Still the epidemic features of ‘2019-nCoV’ are not clearly known for the children which is very problematic for pediatric medical workers. Firstly there are children who are asymptomatic or with mild symptoms. Secondly those with underlying pathologies and these cases should be isolated a soon as possible to avoid transmission to others. Thirdly, Pregnant women infected with covid-19 in late pregnancy were tested. In this limited data of 21 pregnant women when test was performed next day to delivery all pharyngeal swabs showed negative results. There was no evidence of virus transmission from mother to child while delivery. It proved more deadly for adults than children. In children it shows milder symptoms as a result faster recovery occurs. But those with underlying pathologies are more prone to reach critical stages and requiring mechanical ventilation support and such patients should be given high medical attention and care.
Corona Virus Statistics:
Test for Corona Cases:
In case one finds symptoms, He/she needs to go through following tests:
- procalcitonin (PCT)
- C-reactive protein (CRP)
- viral nucleic acid test
Treatment for Corona Virus:
Antiviral drugs should not be used in regular routine unless symptoms are severe. The goal of treatment should be to maintain respiratory system and immune balance. Powerful broad spectrum corticosteroids and antibiotics should be avoided. Patients with underlying pathologies should be isolated as soon as possible. It is crucial to increase care and protection during delivery and soon after delivery make sure to isolate mother from newborn.
Corona Virus Prevention:
- Use Alcohol based Sanitizers while rubbing hands
- Wear Mask while going outside
- Avoid touching your nose, eyes, mouth while outside
- Keep Safe distance while outside
- Wear mask in case distancing is not possible
- Cover mouth with your elbow while coughing
- Cover Nose while sneezing
- Seek medical attention in case of illness
Economic crises due to Covid-19:
It spread fear among people but now there are many antiviral therapies which helps alleviating the symptoms of deadly virus. Covid-19 asphyxiated global economy. This deadly virus shoved the globe to the verge of recession. It affected education, health and everything, It had shaken the world with its increasing fatality rate.
